On July 6, 2016 scientist said that quick blood test to differentiate bacterial infection from viral one will come soon.
The most important factor leading to antibiotic resistant is a misuse, so antibiotics should only prescribed to manage bacterial not viral infection.
Clinically, it can be very difficult to differentiate between bacterial and viral infection, so in most cases antibiotics prescribed for viral infection, this will lead for development of bacterial strains that not respond to antibiotics.
By this blood test, doctors will be able to differentiate between two types of infection easily, therefore this test will reduce unnecessary use of antibiotics to treat viral infection and limit developing bacterial resistance.
